Ground Views

main stand pictured in January 2000

The impressive Main Stand, funded by the Football Trust and opened in 1996/97
with a match between Wales and Holland Schools.

The old stand looking rather rickety these days!

The old main stand along with a rather precarious looking TV gantry!

Lily's opinion:

Lido have yet to set the world alight with the quality of their match programmes and the 99/00 issue is another to disappoint.

There are only eight pages of readable content in this advert laden issue and most of these are provided by the league's newsletter and the opposition club.

Cheapest programme in the league but unfortunately the worst.

Lily's Jottings
The transformation at the Lido since Rhyl's first League of Wales visit in September 1994 has been incredible. They have built a new and impressive club house on the ground and have also erected a brand new stand courtesy of funding from the Football Trust. They do have a fantastic setup but  find it difficult attracting local support.

For the traveller the ground is rather out of the way on the Aberavan sea front, some two or three miles from the nearest shopping centre. There are a few pubs within a ten minutes walking distance and there's an adjacent swimming pool 'The Lido' should you still feel energetic after the long bus journey down!

A pleasant enough place to visit for a match, just a shame that the locals don't come along in greater numbers to liven up the atmosphere.

Lily's 'Match Experience' Rating = 7/10
